When is the Best Time to Learn a New Language?

Fall is here and the school year has begun for our tuition-free charter school. Whether you are new to the area and searching for a TK-8 school; interested in dual language education; or just looking into alternatives to your current school; Dual Language Immersion North County (DLINC) is ready to welcome you!

When to Begin?

Many families that tour our campus wonder what is the optimal age for their child to begin learning a second language. It’s a great question, and the answer is: any age! As a tuition-free public charter school, we welcome new students at all grade levels, TK-8. Although we suggest that the earlier a child starts learning a second language, the better, we have found that students of all ages can be successful in our 90:10 instructional model. A record number of 6th grade students transferred to DLINC this year, and we enrolled new students in all grades. You truly can succeed at any age!

It’s a Statewide Goal!

We are leading the charge to help meet the goals of the California Department of Education (CDE) Global California 2030 Initiative. CDE initiative goals are that half of California students K-12 be proficient in two or more languages by 2030, and 75% of students be proficient in at least two languages by 2040. The US Department of Education believes that multilingualism helps students better appreciate and more fully engage with the diverse mixture of cultures, heritages, and languages found in California and the world, while also preparing them to succeed in the global economy. They cite so many benefits to dual language education - including educational, cognitive, sociocultural, and economic. And we agree!

Supporting Mid-Year Transfers…

At DLINC we take pride in our warm and supportive learning environment. Your student will feel welcomed and included from the moment they walk through our doors - even if they are enrolling after the start of the school year.

Each of our TK-8 grades feature small class sizes with low student-teacher ratios that ensure every student is seen and heard. Our culture of kindness teaches students respect for themselves, others and the environment. It fosters positive relationships between students that reduces bullying and rewards inclusivity. And it creates a sense of belonging and pride that even our newest students can feel and benefit from.

We support struggling learners with academic support, including in-school and after-school programs and an after-school math club. Students have peer support buddies that help them navigate the social aspects of school. And we also provide services for students with disabilities, including a speech therapist and an occupational therapist.

…And Families Too!

When new students enroll at DLINC, their families join too! Our tight-knit community values the partnership between families and teachers in ensuring student success. DLINC teachers communicate regularly with parents to check in on student progress and answer any questions or concerns. We offer math workshops for parents looking to support our math curriculum at home, and present family forums throughout the year on issues affecting our community. All DLINC parents and caregivers are invited to regularly scheduled Coffee with the Principals to ask questions and discuss concerns. And we welcome caregivers to our campus to volunteer as room parents, reading buddies, PTO members, and more. We all work together to inspire and grow empathetic, respectful students!

Dual language learning can successfully start at any age, and DLINC welcomes new learners to our school throughout the year. Find out more about how you can join our family and enroll today!
